6 Ways to Track Your Comments

5 July 2010 and last modified on July 7th, 2010 at 4:56 pm, 2 Comments

Tracking your comments can be time consuming and difficult. Although some blogs include a feature to notify you when a new comment is added, keeping track of all places you comment can be quite challenging.  Fortunately, there are tools that can help you to track your comments on blogs.  To find out more about the benefits these tools offer, read our post on “5 Reasons to Use Comment Tracking Tools”.  As a Web designer, I often participate in discussions by leaving comments on posts. Without these tools to track my comments, it would have been virtually impossible for me to keep track of discussions. Tracking all your comments manually is not feasible due to the time involved.

Following are 6 ways to track your comments.

1) Backtype

Back type is a tool for monitoring tweets and blog comments. Back type is a service that lets you find, follow, and share comments from across the web.  You can type in a URL and see the social impact of the website. It does so by finding all posts with your URL in the comments.

Tweet s and comments on Reddit are displayed in results. In addition to conversations, iy also includes charts displaying tweets and comments about your website as well as a chart displaying the total number of unique twitter users who have shared your link.

You can use this tool to see where you have commented as well as find out others who have mentioned your posts in tweets and comments. You can subscribe to these comments using RSS.

2) Co Comment

Co Comment (coComment) is another tool that will help you manage your comments across the web. It is a professional tool and well known service that is used by many people. There is sufficient information on their website along with an active community. A Firefox extension and bookmarklet are available.  It allows you to track conversations and notifies you when there are new comments.  The watch-list offers advanced tracking with the ability to filter conversations based on custom criteria.

3) Yacktrack

Yacktrack lets you search for comments on your content from various sources, such as Blogger (blogger), Digg (Digg), FriendFeed, Stumbleupon (StumbleUpon), and WordPress (WordPress) blogs.

It has a useful feature called “Chatter”, which allows you to perform keyword searches on social media websites and receive notification whenever there is a new mention of your brand name. RSS feeds for your search terms are also available.

4)Co.mments

co.mments is somewhat limited in features but is still useful. Automatic tracking is not possible. A Firefox extension is available. It aggregates multiple comments per blog into one feed item. It has a watch list where you can add sites to track. It is comparatively better at recognising comments.

5) Commentful

It is similar to co comments but offers limited features. It is a relatively new service. Firefox extension is available with an icon that will flash to indicate new comment notification. Commentful only tracks the number of comments, which implies that you will still need to visit the blog to read the actual comments. Information and help on the website is also limited.

6) Diggwatch

Diggwatch is an application that allows you to track your comments on Digg. It cannot be used to track conversations on other blogs. You can choose to track your friends’ comments as well as comments on stories posted from a certain domain. The number of positive and negative votes are also displayed in the results.
