Website design is an important consideration for all new businesses. A company’s website plays an even greater role under current economic conditions as a new business may need to rely on the website to attract new leads for the business. New businesses have less to spend on marketing and advertising and building a credible website presence can be key to the growth and success.

Most businesses start the search for a website design company on the internet. Search engines such as Google can be a powerful source of information for finding the right web design company to build your website.

Almost all web design companies are listed on search engines. A simple search on Google or Yahoo for ‘Web design company’ will return tens of thousands of results within your area or internationally. A large list of web design agencies can be overwhelming as there are so many companies and options to choose from.
If you are looking for website design for your new business, there are certain issues you should focus in order to help your company maximise the benefits from website design. This articles discusses important issues a new business, looking to get its website designed, should consider.

Before you begin contacting Web Design Companies, certain questions should be answered:

1. What is your ideal budget for website design? You should also identify the maximum your business is willing to pay to get a website designed?

2. What is the nature of your business?

3. What type of website are you looking for? e.g. an ecommerce website or a brochure style website.

4. How many pages does your website require? What will be the structure of the website? You should list down the different pages/sections your website needs.

5. What other services do you require in addition to website design (e.g. Website hosting)?

6. Do you have a domain name for your website?

7. Do you require a content management system based website that you can easily update or do you require a static website that will rarely be updated?

8. Identify the top few competitor websites.

9. Do you require a local Web design Company?

First of all you should identify the above areas. Once you have answered the questions, you should contact at least 5 to 10 web design companies clearly stating your requirement. Try to provide as much informational as you can to the web design company you request a quotation from. Web design is a vast filed and a web design company can charge anywhere from £500 to tens of thousands for building a website for your business.

You can write a detailed email with your requirement and email it to a list of web design companies you have identified.

You could either include all the above information in a requirement specification that you can attach with the email or you could simply include the information in the body of the email. Quite iften a web design company will have its own form with questions you need to complete in order for them t provide you with a quotation. However the questions answered above should be sufficient for any company to provide you with an accurate estimate.

When you receive a response from a web design company you should go over the information in detail and identify the one that best meets your criteria. You should look for responses that are more personal in nature than purely commercial. Personal responses that are specific to your enquiry are often more favourable than generic brochures or automated responses. You should try and avoid automated responses.

A website is an important tool for your business and will represent your brand for many year in future. It is important to work with a web design company that understands the needs of your business and offer a long term working relationship. In many cases it helps if your web design company can also offer web hosting or other related services such as Internet marketing. Having a single point of contact for all website related services not only save you time but can also help create a better understanding of your business. This in turn promotes a long term relationship between your business and the web design company.

We are a corporate consulting business based in London. We require a website to be designed for business. Our total budget for the website is in between £900 to £1,500. I am looking for a simple informational website with approximately 5 web pages.

The structure of the website will be as follows:

  • Home page
  • About Us
  • Products
  • Services
  • Why Us
  • Contact us

We already have a domain name but will require website hosting with support. We also require an easy to use content management system so we are able to update the content on the website on a regular basis.
We like the look and feel of the following competitors and would like our website to offer a similar layout and usability.

Could you please provide me with a quotation at your earliest convenience.

Kind Regards,
Your Details”

Never go into a website project assuming you can answer these questions off the top of your head. Don’t get bogged down in your preconceptions and don’t waste your time reinventing the wheel. Spend some time researching other sites that already do what you are trying to do. Odds are pretty good no matter what business you’re in someone a lot smarter than you has already done all the research you need to do on your site. Don’t hesitate to benefit from this. It’s a lot easier to take a great idea and improve it than it is to do everything from the ground up.
