A company or business can benefit significantly from a successful website. There is little doubt regarding the benefits a professional website can offer to a company. Although the overall web design awareness has improved significantly, getting a website designed can still be a challenging affair for most companies. There are so many issues in general to consider when you want to build a website. First of all one must conclude on the topic for your website. Building and maintaining a website requires time and effort form you. If you are designing or developing a website on a general topic then it is important that the topic is of interest to you, and that you share a certain level of excitement required in building and maintaining a website takes.

An important thing to remember when you are designing your website is that you want a highly professional website that allows you to build your profile and status with time. This is crucial if you want your website to be successful. If on the other you have an unprofessional and un balanced website then the chances are that your visitors will get confused and lost in the clutter and confusion and most likely go onto another site. It is important for you to ensure that the website you are designing has a clean, uniform design on all pages which should also be easy to navigate. The process of creating supporting and encouraging a website is challenging but rewarding at the same time. It however takes a lot of hard work for you to achieve your goals.

Your website is the virtual representation of your company whether your company is a traditional or exists only on the Internet. When you are doing business online, your customers cannot see you in person as they are able to if they are dealing with a physical high street business. Therefore it is quite understandable that your customers will judge your company by the appearance of your website. If your website has a well balanced and visually appealing design, this will work for you simply because first impressions play a major role in determining in retaining customers on your website.

Another important factor in web design is to make it easy for visitors to get to the content they’re looking for on your website. If you have hundreds or thousands of articles on your company’s website and someone wants to find a single article from that list, you need to provide a feasible way to enable visitors to do that without trouble. Whether your website is database driven or static, the ability for users to find the content with ease is important. A search engine on the website, list of terms and definitions or an index page of articles are some ways to ensure they can use your site with comfort and find the information they are looking for.

In many ways a website works in the same way as a high street business. If your website is ragged or looks stock, with no personalization, you’re conveying to your visitors that you are not professional and you do not care for quality.

On the other hand, if you have a professional, well designed website for your organization, you are letting your visitors know that you care about professional qualities. A professionally designed website lets your customers know that you are organized and dedicated and that you really mean business.

For any professional activity or task, care must be taken to make a firm, workable plan then follow through with it. The same applies to website designs. With a well planned and thought out website design, you will be able to create a website that provides you with multiple gains and opportunities for your company. Many websites turn into abandoned places on the internet because they’re not well planned and fail to retain visitors. If a website is poor and does not attract visitors, the web master or team behind the website are likely to gradually loose inspiration or motivation required updating it frequently or ensuring its growths and success. And it can soon turn into a wasted virtual space like thousands of other website on the internet.

One of the key objectives of planning a website is optimizing it for income especially if the website is commercial in nature and you would like to gain any income from it. Planning the website structure is also important and needs to be addressed in the design. Divide your site into major blocks, arranged by topics, then start making new pages and subsections in those sections.

The design of the website should be guided or influenced by what you hope to achieve from your website. If you wish to use your website to generate revenue form advertising then the design should be guided by different principles than if you were designing a website to advertise the products and services for your company. When you have an extensive, better delineated scope of themes for your website, it will be easier to sell space on your pages to people interested in advertising on your page. You can also be worthy from programs like Google’s Ad Sense. The advertisement blocks on your pages need to be pertinent to the content, so themed pages fit those criteria flawlessly.

I agree that web design needs careful planning. Everything must be well planned before actually doing the work to avoid delay and wasting money and effort.

Web design should match to whatever goals you may have to ensure success.

This is a good post! Imagine the rush of adrenalin on seeing your site come up for all relevant keywords and attract new and repeat customers because your content and your services are so relevant, fresh and useful. I think most site owners are misdirected and misinformed about how the whole space works and therefore believe that having a website never made sense for them.
But Like you said “Your website is the virtual representation of your company whether your company is a traditional or exists only on the Internet” Its best to take control of your website than to expect outsiders to align the site to your business goals. Services Like Yahoo Small Business’s (http://in.business.yahoo.com/) have been far more useful in keeping the site relevant and refreshed.

As pointed out in the comment above, the thrill from seeing your website rank high on Google due to months of hard work is difficult to put in words. Anyone who has achieved this can easily understand. When designing or maintianing a website, the power of quality content is sometimes under estimated. It might feature as one of the many different techniques to improve your website’s search engine rank, howeever the extent of the benefit can sometimes be over shadowed by other Search engine optimisation techniques. We have been in the web design business for many years now and we have an active SEO campaign for to market our own web design services. In the first year we focused mainly on other SEO methods and new content on our website was rarely added. However it is only in the past 8 months or so since we shifted our focus to adding new content on our website on a weedly basis, that we have seen real benefits from our website. Today we receive a large proportion of our business from our website and our website has become the most valuable marketing tool for our business.

Going back to the origional topic of this article,a professional looking web design is important but its what we do with it afterwards; that will determine its success or failure on the internet.

It’s all a game(if you do not rely on the money income) to see if your work have success or not. Even after months it still thrills me to see if my sites or the sites of my customers are still ranked top/good. If you know what you are doing, expecially in seo and webdesign than everything should be fine. I think there are a lot of really good webdesigners out there doing great jobs on greating stunning websites… But they all forget the seo part by putting headers as images into the website or using ajax-powered rollout menus to there site…
