While Social networking and other social media sites offer a medium to publish content and directly connect with users, social bookmarking sites mainly help to share and promote content that is already available somewhere on the internet. From an SEO and Internet marketing point of view, it is important to target both. The company I work with for example, regularly publishes new content on social media sites such as Squidoo, Hubpages and Facebook. We then use social bookmarking sites to promote the links to our content.This is fairly common strategy.
