A Web design company can utilise some basic Search engine marketing techniques to ensure websites designed by them are found easily on search engines. Some may ague that a web design company’s role primarily involves designing a website and a search engine specialist deals with the marketing side of things.
Although Website design and search engine marketing are completely independent fields, there are some simple yet crucial steps a web designer or a web design company should use during the design phase of a website.

Quite often overlooked by web designers it is crucial not only to ensure that a website has incoming links from external websites but also maintains good internal linking within pages of a website. In addition to the Menu and navigation system on the website, related pages should be cross referenced with hyperlinks.
9. Optimise each page on the website independently: Each and every page on the website should be optimised for search engines independently rather than just the home page or the entire website together. Search engine treat each page on a website independently. Hence optimising each page independently greatly improves the chances for the website being found on search engines. Each page on a website should be optimised with its own set of Keywords important to that page. All search engine optimisation techniques should be adopted for each page independently rather than the website as a whole.

11. Use Keyword rich Alt tags for images: Alt tags help provide additional information about an image on a website. Alt tags are usually hidden to users and displayed by a browser when an image cannot be displayed on a web page for any reason. Using keyword rich alt tags for images is a known technique used by web designers to improve a website’s visibility on search engines.
12. Submit URL to Search Engines and directories: Last but not the least a web designer should always submit the URL to all major search engines and free online directories. Although this may not be the specific job role for a designer it is the least a web designer or company can do for their client.
