SEO Tip #1: Find the Best Keywords

Keywords are phrases users use to find a website on search engines. Identify 4 or 5 top keywords that you want to target. Ensure that the keywords appear multiple times with the text on you website. In order to rank high on search engines the focus on your website should be on your keywords. The keywords density should be approximately 2% to 5% of the total no. of words on a page.

Tools such Google’s Keyword volume search can help in keyword selection. The toll helps by providing search volume trends which can be useful as you do not want to select keywords that no one searches for.

SEO Tip #2: Discover Your Competitors

If you want to beat your competitors you will need to understand what they are doing right. From a Search engine point of view a good place to analyse the top 5 results of the keywords you are targeting. There are many things you could do to understand SEO strategy of the websites that get top 5 ranks for the keywords you are targeting. :

eg type the following in Google ( Replace www.kronikmedia.co.uk with your own website address to find out how many websites link back to yours )

Site: www.kronikmedia.co.uk

If you do a search in Google in the above format you will get a list of related web pages, articles and press releases for that website. This will indicate their level of active involvement in SEO campaign.

link: www.websitename.com (Replace websitename.com with your own website address)

If you do a search in Google in the above format you can find out how many other websites link back to a competitor. This will indicate what you need to do in order to receive a similar rank in search engines.

SEO Tip #3: Optimize Your Title and Your META Tags

Tiitle Tag

Title tags are what appear in the top blue bar of a web browser. If you look at the top blue bar of this page you ill see’ Tips for search engine optimisation’. The title tag is one of the most important tags used by search engines to select what websites to server when a user performs a search. Make sure you include your main keywords in the title tag and not just your website name as a lot of websites tend to do.

Description Meta Tag

Description Meta tag is used to describe the website to a search engine and in next in importance to the title tag. Make sure to include all keywords you are targeting in the description tag as well as the title as it will improve the chances of ranking higher.

Keyword Meta Tag

Keyword Meta tag contains a comma separated list of keywords that you are targeting. Although not as important as the title and description tags, it is still treated as important by some search engines.

SEO Tip #4: Use Headings

Headings play an important role in providing weight to the keywords you are targeting. It is a proven technique to include keywords as headings on your webpage content. Having your keywords as headings will add more weight to your keywords and improve the chances of your website appearing on search engines for the keywords.

Similar to headings keywords as bold letters within the text of your website will add more weight to the keywords and improve rank.

SEO Tip #5: Use Title and ALT Attributes

The chances are website contains images. Titles and alts are special tags attached to images on your website. Search engines cannot read images so they rely on theses tags to obtain information on what the images are about. Assuming that images on your website are related to your keywords in some way; it is advised that you use your most important keywords on the title and alt tags for your images. This will improve the chances of ranking high on search engines.

SEO Tip #6: Create a Site Map Page

Sitemap is simply a complete list of all the different pages on your website. Sitemaps are not only useful for your customers but also inform search engines of the different pages on your website. Having a sitemap on your website increases the chances of all your website pages being indexed by search engines and not just your homepage.

SEO Tip #7: Include a robots.txt File

Robots.txt is file on your server which tells the search engines what files and folders to visit and what to leave out.

SEO Tip #8: Build Quality Content

Ultimately it is the content of your website that will have the most positive effect on your website. The ultimate objectives of all Search engine rules are o deliver the website with the most relevant content to the user. The period at which new content is added to the website is also important. Search engines especially Goole loves websites that regularly add new content. The content on your website should also be related to the products and services you offer (you r keywords).

In the long run websites that have good content and add new content periodically rend to rank well on search engines.

SEO Tip #9: Build quality links

Internal Linking

Having good internal linking between all your website pages is important to ensure all your pages get indexed by search engines. Related pages should be cross referenced and linked. All pages on your website should be 1 or maximum 2 clicks away from the home page. Keywords should be used in links.

Links from other websites

External links are one of the most important factors to improve search engine ranking. Search engines view links to your website form other related websites as a sort of voting system. Search engines see links to your website form other website as providing authority to your website in some way. Top ranking websites often have thousands of other websites inking o them. The qualities of links are important. Links form related websites are better.

SEO is a continuous process. The ability to measure the performance of your website on search engines is crucial in all stages of your online presence. A good website statistics software can help you can track what’s working and what’s not. Google Analytics is widely used web analytics software that will allow you to analyse your website visitors in detail.
