Web Design – Top Social Media Websites for Web Design
Social media or social networking websites are an excellent source for creating extra traffic for your company’s website or blog.
If you are a web design company or a freelance web designer, you can benefit from additional exposure on niche social media websites that target web design, graphic design or web development. Social media sites not only provide additional exposure but also improve back links to your web design related resources on your website. Most of these sites allow you publish either articles or links to web design related resources or pages on your site or blog. This also offers opportunities for deep linking to internal pages, which is often not addressed by traditional link building methods that focus on getting back links to the homepage of your website. However it is important that they are not used to spam. While it is OK to use social media to drive traffic to your site, it should only be done to focus attention on resources that can be valuable to others.
The list below includes some interesting and useful social media websites related specially to the web design or development industry. Really useful list here. Great post. It would have been cool to see some traffic figures to each site from compete.com to get an idea of the potential traffic on offer.
Remember, one thing that everyone forgets about social media, is that it’s as much about listening as it is about talking. It’s important you’re monitoring and watching the right channels to get the most out of it.

Phil, Thank you for your suggestion. I would like to expand this post at some point and include potential traffic information. Thank you for letting me know about compete.com.
Someone emailed me the other day asking me why I have left some of the top sites like Digg from my list. Well, as suggested in the introductory paragraph, most of us are already familiar with the top sites so I thought I will cover the less obvious ones this time.
Some other websites like squidoo or Hubpages should not be overlooked even though they may not be related only to web design. The list here is great but I want to add that if you want all round exposure then you should not forget to target the general Websites as well.
I’m glad to have visited your blog and good to know you! I find it interesting and informative.
Do you people really allow somebody to comment or have just the problem i am trying from last 25 min to comment a genuine comment but your stupid system always say you are too fast …….Stupid system fix it otherwise no body would be at your blog.
Dear James, I can see that you have been able to comment after all. We have a standard comment system, however it has a standard check to prevent posting of multiple comments too quickly, as a way to prevent usual spams. I am sorry that you experienced problems. I will check our system a few time just to ensure all is OK. Apologies once again.
Make it easier for visitors to reach your home page easily and from any where in your site. Have clear headings for each paragraph …..
As suggested by some, I have updated the post with new figures on monthly traffic to each website. Data has been obtained from compete.com.
