As discussed earlier in this article, Twitter is a unique website which works differently to most other social networking websites or tools. Sites such as Facebook or Myspace allow users to create free profiles and communicate with others. Most of these sites however offer a wide range of tools for connecting with others and micro blogging is either non existent or loose focus among the many other features. Other content sharing websites such as hub pages or squidoo also allow users to share ideas with others however there is a fundamental difference that makes Twitter truly unique. While most other social networks or content sharing websites promote lengthy content from users, Twitter place a maximum word limit of 140 characters in all its posts. While most other content sharing websites tend to rank your page higher if content is diverse and updated frequently, Twitter encourages you to describe your ideas in text message style format. Most journalists now use Twitter for breaking key news events. Sports commentators use Twitter to provide yup to date scores and analysis of live events.
Another major advantage is that you can use twitter from your mobile phone equally effectively as from a desktop. Tweets can be easily posted via short messaging service (SMS) from mobile phones. If you send a text message from your phone to Twitter, the message transmits to a mobile switching center (MSC), which then routes the text to twitter. And twitter subsequently sends these messages to your circle of contacts. The entire process takes place almost instantly. Twitter generates responses much faster than other methods. The simplicity and easy of use are some of the main reasons behind its success.
Although Twitter is free to use, there are some terms that should be followed during sign up. You should be at least 15 years old. You are responsible for keeping your password secure and for any problems that may arise from your tweets. You are also not allowed to use Twitter for offensive or adult content. Twitter is like a breath of fresh air on the Social Media scene. I have been on it for just a few weeks now and I have met several interesting people. It is a platform to network with people you would like to meet in real life.
One of the best things about Twitter is the diversity in which it can be applied to meet inidvidual needs. Twitter has proved popular for a wide range of activities such as Live sports scores and commentaries, Support groups, technical support for products, employee communication, company news, customer response, and so on and so fourth. No other social networking tool has the level of diversity offered by Twitter. It has become so pupular for a reason.
I just stumbled upon your own blog and I’ve really appreciated reading it. The main difference between Twitter is the short message limit. Micro blogging was invented by Twitter when it started. Other web sites have copied this model with less success. Media buzz around Twitter has helped soar its use.
Twitter is the best for gathering information on a variety of topics. In one glance at ur tweets, you can be informed about issues and events that matters to you in real time. And if you want to get more info on a single topic, just click it and it can open up to a whole new world of information.I actually do my research in here.
Mary, You are right to state that Twitter is useful for researching topics. I personally however use it mostly to share information that I think will be useful for my network. I inform readers about my new posts via Twitter and also share any other useful content or posts I come across on other blogs. I guess this versatility is what makes Twitter so powerful.
